What's For Dinner?

Alright so I realize that the last few post have been about relationships/marriage/the likes and Ill try to make it more even. Marriage has been on everyone's mind lately (especially since you can't turn on Facebook without seeing another one biting the dust ;) ). SO without fail any conversation eventually comes back to this.

Yesterday one of my room-mates was talking about not wanting to get married because the added responsibility of having to cook. Her "potential" future spouse was making a joke regarding her cooking or lack of cooking ...basically hinting that she better pick it up before marriage.

I don't know if I have mentioned this yet but I am INDIAN and generally this is the mindset.. the question of "what is for dinner" is often going to be answered by a female.

I know on several blog post up until now I have told you about my disdain for cooking and my lack of skill so ...where does this leave me (and many others like me)?

Contrary to popular belief, I am not one of those who believes in womanizing my (future) husband and making him do all the domestic chores. I believe in splitting the load- especially if both partners are working. If I am a stay at home mom- then I believe it is my DUTY and responsibility to make sure the house is clean and dinner is prepared (as well as breakfast and lunch).

If both my husband and I are working then I think it's the person who gets home first or has time on their hands to take care of it. If you are a guy-making sure dinner is on the table isn't going to make you any less of a man. Waiting on the couch for your wife to get home after a 8 hour shift to make dinner for you and the kids while you lounge on the couch- doesn't make you a man it makes you a chauvinistic jerk. You don't have to wear an apron and cook- pizza will do- just make sure it happens.

Females if you get home first then you get to start dinner- or make sure it appears. P.S. I think I have a plan so Ill make "rice" and then buy pickle and then steal curries (beef, fish, chicken....) from my parents and steam vegetables. Sounds like a Semi-Home-made meal to me.

Either way- I believe that there is a shift in the paradigms of society. It is no longer just the wife who is responsible for all things domestic but a  husband has a fair share too. Traditionally- the husband was the bread winner and the wife would be keeping the home in shape. When both partners work there has to be a fair divide of household chores. It isn't just to ask one partner to do everything- that will just lead to resentment.
